The NSR50, the undisputed king of geared 50cc sports bikes that fueled the explosive motorcycle boom of the 1980s and 1990s, is finally making its debut as a brand‑new plastic model kit. This machine holds a special place in the hearts of many who spent their youth during that golden era.
To ensure that even people who normally have little interest in scale models can enjoy building it, we developed an entirely new parts layout concept. The kit features a low parts count, can be assembled as a snap‑fit model, and uses multi‑color molding, allowing builders to complete a realistic finish without painting. The concept is a “casual, approachable scale model” that anyone can enjoy.
Despite the simplified parts structure, we conducted detailed measurements of a rare surviving stock NSR50 to ensure that experienced modelers can also appreciate the kit. The engine, frame, and bodywork have been faithfully reproduced, and the complex curved color patterns can be finished using water‑transfer decals. The wiring uses custom‑made PVC tubing, and the tires are made of elastomer material, giving the kit all the essential qualities of a true scale model.
